A modern school is not only a place of learning but an innovative, cultural environment for preparing the future generation. Therefore, choosing the right lighting for school premises is an important component in creating a comfortable and productive learning environment. Proper lighting enhances the productivity and performance of students and teachers. In this article, we would like to share the experience of implementing a lighting project for the modern private school ‘Teo Bend’ in Uzhgorod.
The specialists of our company began by analyzing the specific features of the premises and the school’s needs to develop an optimal lighting plan.
When developing the lighting project, the top priority was the safety and well-being of the students. Therefore, to ensure proper lighting in the school premises, special attention must be paid to the following characteristics of the luminaire:
Flicker Coefficient. Flickering is a hazardous phenomenon, harmful not only to the eyes but also to a person’s mental well-being and overall health. It is practically impossible to detect the flickering with the naked eye; it is measured with special instruments. However, manufacturers typically indicate the “flicker coefficient” in the technical specifications of the luminaire. The lower this indicator, the safer the luminaire is for health. In luminaires produced by MG GROUP, this indicator has a zero value, meaning that flicker is absent in these luminaires. Additionally, you can determine the flicker level in an LED luminaire based on indirect signs, namely the LED manufacturer. If it is Samsung, OSRAM, CREE, or Seoul Semiconductor, then there is a high likelihood that flicker will be minimal, as well as in the power supply units. Power supplies from European manufacturers such as OSRAM, HELVAR, and Philips undergo European certification, and some of the tests also include flicker measurements.
An important factor in choosing luminaires is achieving uniform illumination throughout the educational space. For ambient lighting, it’s necessary to select luminaires with a wide beam angle of 120° or more. MG LINE luminaires, as well as all luminaires derived from this type (meaning they have a common profile and in most cases, a single set of LEDs), have a beam angle of -120°.
We chose MG SHADOW, MG SIDE, and MG AMBRE luminaires for illuminating the classrooms. These fixtures are modern, stylish, and energy-efficient, and their geometric shapes provide a visual aid for familiarizing students with shapes in real space.
In the auditorium, we combined linear luminaires with track systems, allowing us to adjust the lighting scenarios according to the events taking place.
For the corridors, we used MG TOTAL Panel Lights measuring 595×300 mm, which provided even illumination throughout the perimeter.
The lighting project for Teo Bend School serves as a shining example of how local manufacturers can collaborate with educational institutions to enhance the learning and lives of the younger generation. We appreciate the trust placed in us! We are working for the future!
